MId Autumn Festival 2013

Precisely last year a day before Mid Autumn Festival, we did an event to launch a timepiece that was related to the Moon. It wasn't intended this way but everything just fell into place.....

The venue with a Circular Shape feature, the Festival, the mood and feel. The gifts of gourmet mooncakes for each and every guests. The Menu was specially created for it. Oh believe me, I gave the Chef a really tough time. He hated me deeply.....

The Star which was the product to be launched itself was so befitting.....a patented movement timepiece that not only tells time, but moon phase and date with its dial spinning on its disc....presenting a different dial each new day as the "date" jumps to the next day. Didn't I tell you that timepieces has got such intricate beauty and technicalities?

No....I don't have one....already wearing something similar and I can't be buying timepieces like this. Not even from the company I worked for.

It was just a very simple setup with 60 guests. Sometimes simplicity is the key. Looking back, I am seriously running out of ideas, venues and creativity to host dinner and events. Perhaps I should just engage and hire an event company to run their creative juice for me?

Last Thursday we hosted another private dinner for all our tan sri datin sri guests at the beautiful Orchid Conservatory at Majestic KL

We transformed the glass house into a dinner venue. Food proved to be a challenging one. I guess by now most of the Chefs in town really do wanna strangle me with their Butcher Strings *the one used to tie meat* or just end my life with their knives b4 exploding me in their industrial oven.

the only time I was happy with food served at my events was at Sage.
>.<
sigh.....

I am seriously running out of creative juices...
it's time to reflect and decide where to head on next. In the first place I wasn't trained/educated to do wat I'm doin now. Life is such an irony. But Passion will lead u to where u want to be.

So folks, if ur children do have dreams, let them chase it......bearing in mind to bring them down to Earth ocassionally. Because life isn't always about green green grass with bushes of daisies, flowers, singing birds and butterflies. Or they'll end up like Lucy *click here to find more about Lucy*
Happy Mid-Autumn Festival Folks!!!
enjoy all the goodies and fun with candles & lanterns...hehehehe
I'll be busy sorting out my life and searching for inspirations from Full Moon.

Foucault Pendulum @ Pantheon Paris

I should have blogged about this when we visited the Pantheon in Paris. It was a quiet late afternoon when we arrived b4 the silence were broke up a stream of protestors on the street. Oh well in Europe it is soooooo sooooo sooooooo common to have procession and protestors every weekend. From anti eurozone to save palestine to unemployment and oh watever.

Now that I've recalled about Pantheon, I can't find the pics anymore...*blame it on JS*. He can't remember which memory card it was stored in. Too many cameras, can't remember we took it with which and there's a gazillion of memory cards in his camera room. He doesn't have the time to load one by one to check when each card consisted of thousands of pics in raw format. I don't understand why he needs to snap in such hi-res with 20mb each pic. Mr. JS we are not snapping pic for a billboard print material ok?

Anyway the Foucault pendulum was invented by Leon Foucault and today is his 194th Birthday. :)))) I've learnt it in school about his pendulum and was so infatuated by it....oh how I can be woo-ed by a pendulum then :P

the Foucault pendulum at Pantheon Paris

installed in 1851, with a 67 metres long cable and a 28kg brass bob suspended from its dome. Today the bob is on display at the museum. In 2010 the cable snapped and poor bob dropped onto the marble flooring and damaged the original marble flooring :(((

Monkey was so mesmerised by the swinging bob and spent a few freaking hours staring at this apparatus swinging clockwise. While on the South Pole this bob swings anti clockwise.

If u would like to find out more about the Foucault Pendulum *click here*
but not everyone is a geekie geek like me....so do go to google's main page to play with the apparatus :))))

Aside from the pendulum, there's a must visit crypt down the Pantheon. Marie Curie the first lady who won a Nobel Prize was buried here. She's such a great physicist, I admired her deeply.....so was Louise Braille who invented "braille" and Victor Hugo!!!!! think Les Miserables, think Hunchback of Notre Dame and all of his other great works.

Really, it was such a treat to visit the Pantheon. It's almost like a museum to me. Especially paying tributes to all the notable people down at the tomb.....hahahahahaha. JS was shaking his head at Monkey as she bowed and whispered to each and every of the tomb that she recognised. After so many months, I kinda forgotten wat I've whispered but it must be how much I've enjoyed reading their works when I was back in school :)))))

Nasi Biryani test run

I had trouble labeling this post....should it be Indian food or Malaysian food? Nasi Biryani originates from errrrr......errrrr....India??? Facts had it that it is popular in South Asia but was invented by the Muslims during the Mughal empire. So don't expect to find a Pork Biryani unless u wanna be creative, then I can name it the chinese style Biryani

The Indians then brought this dish to this part of the world and Biryani stalls have been mushrooming ever since. There's a few variations today, from Nasi Beriani Gam to Nasi Beriani Dum to Nasi Minyak to Nasi Bukhara. Some are served with acar or a meat curry separately. And in Indonesia it's called Nasi Kebuli. All has got their different cooking method/style, ingredients etc.

Knowing JS he would have done research right down to which grain to use for his experiment. Methodologies were analysed and compared in advance so he could get it right. Frustration was he couldn't find some of its ingredients....errrr u wanna make friends with my Indian buddies??? I am sure they can procure those fragrant flowers/spices for u.

anyway there are like a gazillion type of Biryani in this world....ranging from:
different types of meat

some has got raisins and sultanas????? aiyyayayayaya they should be in cookies not rice
rose water
seafood biryani????
potatoes?????

JS alwiz said, if u wanna do something new, learn the basic and get the fundamental right. Oh yes he stresses it so much that I've applied it into my baking. Eg: creaming the butter first or later before adding the sugar makes a hell lot of difference on my cookies. He called it applied science.....hahahahaha. I call it mafan-ness that gave me outstanding results.

so JS made the Hyderabad Biryani
under this category there's already 2 different types...the "Kachchi gosht ku biryani" and "Pakki Biryani". He made the later which required cooking the meat first before layering them in between rice and bake with the vessel sealed in dough....but I didn't see him sealing anything except with aluminium foil...plus he didn't use charcoal nor start any fire :P

short cut short cut...guess that's too much of work.
Just look at the grainssssssss *eyes blinking, stomach rumbling again*

when he scooped them onto my plate, I was so so so amazed....
waaaahhh, it's been quite a while since I have this type of Biryani, cooked in layers, with the rice soaking up some of the curries but most of all its flavours...and yet..the grains remained so firm and yummy

He was beaming with pride....
this was only a test run 1.0....as he made more notes to further improve on temperature, cooking time and techniques...

JS: " I hope the guinea pigs who are coming this weekend will like this main dish"
"nvm baby, if they don't I'll whack the whole tray for u."

JS -_-"
stared at my rounded hippo tummy
Monkey: "heeeeeeeeeeeee ok ok I will resume running and tracking again"
