Tsukiji Sushiko, Tokyo

Fancy having sushi early in the morning for breakfast? Not really my kinda thing, but wait.....after the great gastronomical journey in Japan for almost a month. Having fresh fish early in the morning IS REALLY my thing now....hahahahaha. How a person could change his/her palate....so moral of the story is...do give everything a try in your life :)))

This sushi place was just a walking distance from the famous Tsukiji Market. I will prepare a separate posting on the world largest fish market. Our red eye flight from Malaysia was pretty smooth and both of us slept like King Kongs. We dozed off before the flight could take off and Miss Pretty Stewardess have to shook me awake to enjoy my favourite satays on board. Hahahaha. JS just never bothered with inflight meals and he hardly have any food. So when we arrived Tokyo early in the morning, his stomach was in sirens....bee-boo-bee-boo. Need Food!!!!

We had a brief walk around Tsukiji Market before the Fukuyamas brought us to Tsukiji Sushiko. It is just an average sushi place - according to them. Their standard is pretty high. Very high I must say. But having no complaints we tagged along....coz the sights at all those small lil sushi corners at the market itself is crazy!!!! it's like they were queuing up to buy properties T_T and most of them are blur tourists.

Having the Fukuyamas to our advantage, they brought us across the street to this fully air conditioned, no queue, no eating while standing up kinda thing. Down side is they don't open for breakfast, but only by 11.30am. The timing was just so right, by the time we've crossed the busy Harumi Street, spotted the main entrance....the staff was just placing a signage outside and declared We are Open for Business.....Irashaimase!!!!

the galore of fresh seafood at the counter was like candy bar to me :P
Hot towels were served, oh well not for u to chomp chomp nom nom definitely. It was really a hot day. We arrived Tokyo at 29*C and left at 15*C....such big change of temperature this autumn.

All the beautiful White Fish, no soy sauce, to be eaten only with sea salt.
Yeah in the sushi school of taught, dipping your white fish and drench them with soya + wasabi is disaster!!!! enjoy the delicate white fish and its sweetness.

I was in ecstasy because the fish was so delicate with a crunch!!!! HOW COULD IT BE????
MW Maho: "Coz it was never frozen before my dear....straight from the fish market."
so....this is how sushi should taste like huh?

and the fish should never be cold, when it's too cold u cant' taste anything basically. The rice should crumble in your mouth with even delicate hint of vinegar.

enjoying the transition of Tuna.....of different cuts and parts...
from less fat to more fat and fatty but we didn't go for the fattiest cut...too much. I can't find a word to describe its texture...awesome~~~~

We never like squid but gave it a try anyway....it was so different and so creamy. extremely sweet with a few specks of sea salt on top.

We have many other fish, fish roe, fish liver, Butan Ebi
I wondered wat happened to the pics....too many...thousands of them and it will take a while to organise and sort them out for this blog.

Sea Eel aka Anago was so soft minus the usual fishy smell. Sea Eel is alwiz white instead of the usual darker version of eels. It was really silky smooth

How could one ignore the roe of an Sea Urchin. Sometimes I really wanna bang my head...for less than RM 10 a piece u can eat till u are on the hospital bed thanks to its cholesterol contribution. Soft velvety rich sea urchin with crunchy seaweed on warm fatty grains. AAaahhhhhhh~~~~~This type of breakfast is really a good headstart to any day :))))

MW Maho, Monkey, JS and Papa Bear.
They extended their stay in Tokyo to accommodate us. Arigato gozaimasu :)))))))))) yeah why would 2 Tokyoites need to extend their stay? Coz they don't really live in Japan anymore. These 2 globe trotters are heading up to the mountain tmrw. Enjoy Tibet and have fun!!!

Tsukiji Sushiko is a really good inexpensive sushi place. For those who can't queue in line at the Tsukiji Market hahahaha. Afterall the source is all from the same place :)))

Farmer's Market Aoyama, Tokyo

Fuji Apples sitting gloriously on its crates
It was a lazy Sunday, and after a scrumptious brunch at Shibuya we needed to kill some calories and JS made us walked from Shibuya to Aoyama. Oh well it isn't that far, just a few kilometres. We have done like 22-25km each day in Japan. On our feet....my tiny feet which I had to walked like 1.5 steps to counter his one step -_-

It was an uphill walk and dearie Monkey was huffing and puffing, if not for the hot hot afternoon sun...it would be such a pleasant walk. Funny the weather was a chill 22*C but felt like 32*C hahahaha...

Soon Monkey spotted an opportunity to deviate and ran to a market which they stumbled upon.
Monkey: "Hey look it's an organic all farmer's market!!!! plenty to eat!!!"
JS T_T
adding calories is so much easier alwiz~~~

canned homemade pickled leeks, gherkins, lemon, japanese fern shoots aka Warabi, potatoes and more warabi

everything is homemade, organically grown from all over Japan. So some of these vendors are not farmers but distributors as well. But it's so nice to see so many farmers selling their produce happily and with pride :))))

I'm not a broccoli person but these made me wanna dive in....lost in the jungle of greens :)))))

More greens and different color + size of carrots. There's so much of fruits and vegetables here and all of it looked so yummy. Due to the fertile land that Japan has, most of its locally grown crops including rice are really good
Mikan!!!!!
it's a sweet power packed, seedless, easy to peel mandarin. Very very yummy and usually cost a bomb here in Isetan KL.

Glorious looking tomatoes in variety of colors....these are definitely better than popping popcorns in your mouth...but I beg to differ again....popcorns in Japan is a crazy business. People queue up miles long buying popcorns in Japan.

all the yummy grapes and I spotted some Kyohos too and it's freaking freaking CHEAP
it cost about RM 150 a bunch in Isetan KL. We had so much of grapes in Japan that our stomach can ferment wines.
Sea Salt crystals??? How do u use it?
Not all the farmers here speak english but if u try to converse with them...through the power and universe of food....somehow a duck and a chicken will understand each other here. Cuisine and food is like a language now hahahahahaha.

such beautiful variety of peppers here :))))))))))) U will be surprise that japanese can really eat spicy food...had my shocking discovery upon tasting their curry rice and spicy ramen.

chestnuts!!!! roasted chestnuts and raw ones for sale!!!!
ohhhh how I lurve their sweet fluffy chestnuts....so so yummy and so fine :)))))))))

Mini Bonsai Persimmon tree!!!!! yes those are persimmons!!!

There is a section of flowers market too. Prices are cheaper than market rate on most of the produce sold. A few mini vans and carts were around the corner, selling cooked food and it smelled so heavenly but JS pulled Monkey's neck back to the fruits and vegetables corner.

JS: "No more food for u!!!!"
Monkey: "I just wanna snap some pics....puhhhhleaseeeee."
JS: "NO."

beautiful humongous Gooseberry!!!!! I wanted to buy these home to Malaysia but then again it's so delicate.
before JS realised it....Monkey already bought some "food" wuahahahahahahahaha
JS -_-"
Bigger than my eye ball, it has got the sweetness of mango and good balance of acid. Never had such yummy sweet and juicy gooseberry before. Now I really regretted for not getting the entire box home. sigh........

Farmer's Market is located in front of the United Nations University in Aoyama and they are opened every Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm

We are BACK :))))

Yesterday we touched down in the evening with a THUD as the plane landed on the runway....thanks to our 6 luggage bags, weighing bout 138 kilograms. I swear it was only a soft thud coz with so many ppl onboard, those extra few kilos don't really affect the "thud" that much right?

it took us 60 minutes to unpack back at home....and the amount of stuffs we've accumulated over the last 25 days were......eye popping to some...but Wondrous to us. BAHAHAHAHA.

Next we have problem looking after our own personal stash...coz there's Monkey's stash and JS's stuffs.

Monkey: "THAT's MINE!!!"
JS: "I bought that, it's for my office."
Monkey: "NOOOOO that's for MY OFFICE!!!!"

Not long after that:
Monkey: "This one is MINE...my friend asked me to buy it."
JS: "Funny....I thought it's mine!!!!"

WAHWAHWAHWHAWAHWAH piakpiakpiakpiakpiak scratchscratchscratch HAIIIIIYEAAAAKKKKK Karate-chop cat fights at home over "stashes"

but I did not fight with him over utensils, copper drinking cups, sea salts, kelps, dried shrimps, dried humongous big-like-eyeballs scallops, KNIVES, stones, tablewares, chopsticks, wooden spoons, japanese curry powder, peanuts???, japanese spices, bamboo products for the kitchen, yuzu skin grater, napkins, and gawd knows wat else he bought for the house and his kitchen.

wooooo, now where to hide my stash....it's ALL MINE~~~~~
MINE~~~~~ nyek nyek nyek nyek....maybe inside my piano?
