Ho Hung Kee, Hong Kong *One Michelin Star*

this place has got A STAR!!!!!
Ho Hung Kee was awarded ONE MICHELIN STAR on Dec 2011

well I will definitely blog about it again...coz we came here like ermm...
almost everynite for supper????
so today's posting will only consist of a few pics...
more to be edited...*GAH!!!!*
mis-en-place on every dining table
Ho Hung Kee is your usual casual fuss free won ton noodle shop
with uncles and aunties in white uniform serving u yummy food in a loud atmosphere

since it's like walking distance fr our hotel....
it's like a bedtime prayers thingy....must do before we zzzZZZzzzz

this place is famous for Congee and Won Ton noodle
from its ONLY Chinese menu, Herm C deciphered like 30 types of congee to us
by the time he's done and catching his breath...we kinda forgotten the list only remembering the last few and got him to repeat again.
*Sorry*

they have congee ranging from ABALONE to pig's liver & kidney
to fish and shellfish, to other spare parts and meats

the combination of different ingredients were endless hence the 30 over types
and for the first nite, we tried the usual traditional pork and century egg congee
congee was superb silky smooth
we were contemplating only a bowl after our HUGE dinner at dai pai dong
but after the first bowl......came the next
and ended up with 3
>.<

since we can't load anymore carbo, we had dumplings instead
well guess it's just excuses....sigh
notice the spring-onion-looked-alike greens floating on top
those are chinese chives....HongKies tend to use this a lot in their cooking

Dumplings were yummy with crunchylicious prawns
and julienned crispy wood-fungus
it gives the dumplings really good texture
then we saw next table having dry fried noodles
and.......
heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
so much for a token supper

we were chow-ing food like prisoners again
initially we ordered the famous Sliced Beef Fried Rice Noodle
but they ran out of rice noodle and substituted with mee hoon

nevertheless it was SUPERB
highly recommended
must try this fried noodle
Coke!!!!
best drink to pair with any fried noodles
heeeeeeeeeeeeeee

so if u are in Hong Kong, make ur way to Ho Hung Kee
coz if I can go there to chomp my way every nite...u can too.

Snacking in Patong

hehehehhehe that's me and the peddler for all sorts of yummy snacks
it's like a candy cart for me hahahhahaha
and we call this vendor Jason Mraz coz of his straw hat

everyday at midnite he will stroll past outside the hotel exactly the same time without fail
Monkey & JS will hopped out to choose snacks/supper
and then returned back to our seat at the bar while waiting for it to be prepared
JS: "Wahhh u ate so much already today still wanna eat??? see that stomach of yours jutting out already......"
Monkey -_-

I.Am.Hungry. I.Wanna.EAT.

*it's the dress lar!!!!*
**denial denial tsk tsk**
He has got everything
from dried squid to chicken bum bum to chicken wings *my favourite*
pork sausage, pig liver, lean pork, pork balls,
chicken thighs and drumsticks

so many things I can't remember
U'll definitely find something that u'll want :)))
yeah some comes with sliced chilis on the skewer
oh yeah also chicken SKINS!!!!!
sigh despite buying fr Jason Mraz every midnite...I forgot to order chicken skins :P
U tend pick watever u want and pass it to Jason Mraz
He will BBQ them accordingly to your needs and preference
Jason Mraz will then dash some white pepper unto the skewered meat
I noticed the chicken were already somewat cooked....he just need to BBQ them to give it some extra zing and crunch to its skin :))))))))))))))
and the beautiful marks from the charcoal grill
*hmmm I just noticed that he is not bad looking heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee*
**must be the HAT >.<**
as he's BZ with his work...more curious onlooker came
and he'll get a lot of biz esp from JS
coz somewat he's so generous that he'll buy everyone in the bar who happened to be drinking with us watever they want...
so later u'll see a group of bar-goers were BZ choosing their supper
:)))))))))))))
Pork Sausage was cut this way so the heat will penetrate through
also the sharp edges would have this crispy crunch as u munch
and he dashed sufficient pepper into it...
really really YUMMY
there were also sauces on his cart
chilis, ketchup, fish sauce and some other unidentified sauces
yes this was me on a different nite
*different dress*
bottomline we had some yummy skewered BBQ-ed meat fr Jason Mraz the Peddler every midnite
:)))))))))))))))))
even our bartender got to have supper everynite hahahahahhaa
u hungry yet???

Thai Kuey Teow Soup

What can a cute lil 2 wheelie blue cart sell?
yeah there's only 2 wheels!!! so different fr the normal carts

every nite after our ooohhh-laaaa-laaaaa foot massage, we'll head over to this cart
which was like ermmm....a few metres away
the 1st time we saw it, we didn't pay much attention coz the mission then was massage
MASSAGE massage CHEAP massage :P

then we were so curious coz every nite it is jam packed way past midnite till early morning
with locals queue-ing up to get a "fix" for their tummy

client profiles were outstanding
locals, uncles, aunties, teenagers, party-goers, Bar Gals, Ladyboys, prostitutes, workers around the area
but NO TOURISTS
NO FARANGS *Thais refer ang mohs or mat salleh or white men = farangs*

JS was a bit skeptical esp after midnite
not his "bowl of noodle" coz it's too late to eat
anything after dinner is not his thing...coz he doesn't snack

JS: "U sure u can whack sumore?"
"I'm hungry~~~~ esp after the masage..."

JS: "errr we got to queue and sit with other ppl on the same table oh~~~~"
and pointed at "those ppl" :P

trust me this place is worth it...even if we have to sit with Ladyboys with 36D boobs and penis still attached to their bodies
well how often can u spend 15 minutes that close admiring their perfect face, skin etc
anyway knowing me...I was too bz gawking at my bowl of noodle!!!!!!
while JS dare not look anywhere but me....as the Ladyboys were gawking at him

eh dun be shy lar...u r not a skoolboy anymore :P
kekekekekekek

everything was in order
mise-en-place, cutleries, etc
every single item meant for this business were on this 2 wheelie cart

and on the table there's more mise-en-place
above was some crushed roasted fragrant peanuts
this is to give the noodles a nutty flavour and some texture

brown sugar to balance up the palate
Thai cuisine alwiz consist of the 4 flavours
Sweet
Savoury
Spicy
Sour

so the sourness came from this pickled green chili in white vinegar
very fresh coz the chilis were still crunchy

and super spicy dry chili flakes
somehow Thai chili flakes are alwiz extra spicier

also fish sauce for that savoury salty umami taste
Thai alwiz use fish sauce instead of soya sauce
it has got more length

my bowl of yummy kuey teow came
and dashes of chili flakes were added in
not too much....I dun mean to b a pussy but then again it's really spicy

kacang kacang kacang!!!!!
hehehhehehehehhehehehee

some dashes of fish sauce
just dun put too much but add accordingly as u consume ur noodle
bcoz the PORK BROTH was sooooo beautiful
clean and sweet and simple!!!

there u go....
the most simple and yummiest kuey teow soup

I forgot to snap upclose pic of the kuey teow
it is the FAT in terms of width and THIN in terms of thickness type of rice noodle
texture was so silky smooth it goes down ur throat without any effort
so eat with care...if u dun wanna get choke...straight fr the bowl to ur throat!!!!

served with pork balls, pork paste, pork intestine, and other spare parts
roasted small garlic paste with skins still intact
fresh crunchy beans sprouts
and a sprinkle of spring onions

SUPERB!!!
I had this every midnite as my 1st supper
*I will blog bout my 2nd supper every nite soon*

the secret lies in the clear broth
well I slurped every drop of it....
with Ladyboys watched in amazement...
yeah why did a true LADY like me eat like this :P
as in drinking straight fr the bowl
wakakakakakakakkakakakaka

hey good food must eat like this!!!!
learn & watch!!!!!

This push cart is along Soi Patong Resort
off Soi Bangla *that FAMOUS street in Phuket....hehehehheh*

yea that explains the clientele huh? hehehehehhe
after the yummy supper...we just walked a few metres out to the main street
and continue to partay :D

This is HOLIDAY for Monkey
FOOD :)))))))

Revelation for M People: Soo Kee

everyone concentrating on GOE aka Boss
when Boss speaks....u shuddup and listen
when Boss eats...u wallop :P

this place is like a must visit for the M People
a certain Flatmate said it's the reason they came to Malaysia :P
prollie u can recommend the Lady Boss there to open one outlet in Singapore???
it was past midnite and Choco Markie already fast asleep in Mommy's arms.....
the most comfortable place :)))))

Joanna: "Crispy nooooddllleeeee is hhherreeeeee....."
Choco Markie: "...zzzZZZzzzzzzzziiinnnkkkkk............"

we ordered 3 seating = 3 big head prawns
never get sick of this...
the gravy was thick, sweet and loaded with the juicy-ness fr the prawn heads
which gave the color ORANGE to its gravy

the noodle was crispy though drenched in this thick gravy
no leftover was spotted....every morsel was whacked
every drop of gravy were mopped up clean!!!

Yiks: "Haiiii next time come here 1st...dun give me too much of distraction esp with the beef."
yea we fed him almost the whole animal at Cilantro....

*pic stolen fr Yiks*
Think I need to change Yiks nick to Ah Bao soon...but then again Yiks has been his nick here.
:)))))))))
and Joanna needs a nick soon too...
Beef Kuey Tiow was a bit salty that nite
otherwise it is also superb :))))
lurve the crunch of beans sprout and thinly sliced chinese cabbage

a certain kuey tiow vendor in Penang told us that the bean sprouts were used to give the noodle this "breathe of fire" flavour bcoz when fried it emits water....and burns the wok
hmmmmmmmmmm cooking is all about science as well
temperature, chemical reactions, acidity and balance.
we only ordered a few signature dishes for the guests
this one is one of it. :P
disgusting fallopian tubes fr a pig
heeeeeeeeeeee
fried with chinese chives

J&J clan was still scheming how to store durians into their stomachs after that
-_-"
ok ok ok we will arrange a durian outing soon ok?
after unloading all our HEAVY guests back to their hotel...it's time to head home
for us Malaysians :P
that's Munchy and Wei Nee
JS, Berr *mini host* and Monkey

the Smart Tunnel was so empty so u roughly know wat time it was
yea no traffic why use Smart Tunnel ar?
too much of $$$ wanna donate to them :P
guess it's just habit of hitting the tunnel all the time despite a clear traffic :P

Read bout the previous Soo Kee outing with them *here*

Snacking in Hong Kong

the ladies bz chomping before goin to bed :P
yea it's alwiz non-stop stuffing our faces with food in HK
but u can't blame us coz there's just too much of food around kekekekeke

"Watcha havin?"
"it's succulent deep fried baby octopus marinated in thick sauce"

"and yours?"
"meaty thick sausage....it's good yo!!"
this is a very rare chance of uploading such pics into this blog :P
thanks to photog JS

"I'm having Kai Tan Chai"
yea the famous egg waffle/eggette
a good kai tan chai should have such eggie nose
with crispy outer shell
*I missed Bo Innovation's kai tan chai, read about it here*
but nothing beats the photog
so passionate eh? kekekekkeke
hey mate, it's only a steamed chicken..and u dun eat poultry anyway
*talkin bout poultry I have problems with my reservations in Japan....No Chicka? yes no chicka no duckie no goosie no foie gras des ka? but me.... Monkey everything oso can des...wakarimasu ka?*
JS doesn't snack....it's weird huh?
he only takes 3 main meals a day with strict calories intake
such a healthy person whom I should emulate...
errrr a bit difficult for me....:P
with such different lifestyle and preference we still manage things around under one roof
how eh? :P
hehehehehehehe

Supper at Cheung Chau

rows and rows of seafood restaurant was lining this boulevard that faces the sea
splendid view so u must come to Cheung Chau island before the sun sets
there's plenty to visit too if u have extra time in HK.....

Cheung Chau has got a beautiful beach, vibrant temples, oldest temple in HK is oso here = 1783 and some Rock that dates back to 3,000 years ago found recently in 1970. This piece of rock is now the National Monument of HK.

this place is such a gem....and by nite the scene is so different
we then tottered around the lil island at those narrow alleys
in search of more nite life and FOOD

and this was wat greeted us....our noses and senses
there's all parts of a chicken and all parts of a pig
full specs :P

they even have the tongue and ears *pigs*
can u just look at the FAT chicken wings????
how come so few left??? U'll know after this post.

hmmmmm braised chicken feet???? anyone???

fallopian tubes....
okie it looked disgusting and yucky....dun think I've posted anything like this before

but if u do try eating it...it's a delicacy.
anyway it's either u hate or like it no in between
as for me...YUMSSSS definitely better than intestine bcoz of its crunchy texture
and it's definitely CLEANER than intestine
wuahahahahahah
I suppose most of u have eaten it before....in cantonese we called it "sang cheong"

yes Cheung Chau is really a nice place but the most beautiful part are its people
with such warmth and friendliness which u can never find in Hong Kong city
and life is slightly slower here
and so we landed all our FAT bums and started eating again
the yummylicious BRAISED chicken wings
lady boss said they braised it for hours in slow fire....so the flavours are infused
and the heat will not break the meat + skin + gelatine + tendon
so every single piece of chicken wings looked so pretty!!!!

and my GAWD the best-est braised chicken wings ever!!!!
can't describe...dunno how to describe...
speechless~~~~~~

and soon it proved that it ain't enuff....:P
for us....hehehe hahaha
and the only thing I regretted was not tapau-ing!!!
I.Should.Have.Ta-pau.Some.back.for.my.5th.round of.Supper. at 2.am
grrrRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
and now the taste and texture of the braised chicken wings will forever and ever haunting my mind..........
why do I alwiz torture meself???
self torture = pleasure :P
according to Sigmund Freud...did he??

then there's the wonderfully prepared on the spot CONGEE!!!!!
can u just admire the thickness and the quality of the its grains?
it was boiled so well that its grains broke down and give this silky consistency

and its condiments, u can choose fr coagulated pig's blood, organs, kidney bla bla bla
even the lean pork meat was so smooth

but the most important ingredients I forgot....CENTURY egg!!!
so I told the Auntie i wanted to add and she came over with a knife and an egg
slice slice slice and the eggs fell beautifully in place into the bowl...on top of the thick silky smooth congee

we were like kids watching magic show...wuuuuuuaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
camera shutters began to click and the rest of us were in a sprinting position with their spoons
coz we only ordered ONE BOWL!!!
wat is porridge without her bestfriend???? YouTiao
there's a long history of this deep fried devil fr Song Dynasty
it actually resembles 2 human joined in the middle supposedly the traitors
and YouTiao has to be a foot long, I forgot wat's the story but it is a tradition

the foot long crispy YouTiao cost HKD 5 only
and it is very very delicious
Nom Nom Nom~~~~~
and after that off to the Kah-Li-Yu-Tan stall aka curry fish balls on skewer

JS just wanna pengsan at all the food being stuffed down our throats
yeah not even his throat :P coz he already stopped eating after the seafood dinner

I really enjoyed the company of these travelmates
coz we have something in common
HIGH STOMACH Capacity
hhehehhe hahahhahaaa
steamed & blanched chicken anyone???? kekekekke....
so nicely done with its yellow skin
this one not for sale...the ladies prepared it for their Full Moon prayers to the Gods and deities

u never know there's so much to eat in this lil island rite?
wuahahahhaha....
then we walked back to the Ferry Terminal to get our 9pm ride home
yeah I know so early rite? coz our dearie boss was rushing us...he didn't wanna miss the ferry and had to stay in this haunted island for the nite......but the last ferry is 11pm!!!!

now who has got the smallest guts?
to stay here for the nite would be an adventure...maybe next time.
:)))))))))))))))
