Erawan Tea Room, Bangkok

lovely icy cold Lemonade. Awesome on a smoking hot day in Bangkok. This isn't the first time I'm posting about Erawan Tea Room. So it's kinda like a must go whenever you are in town for its comfy ambience and amazing food. How I saw its price list crept over the years from 240 baht for a tea set to 380 baht and during festive seasons like Christmas it would be hovering around 450 baht.

Look!!! it's the same plate and cutleries as those in our room :))) Lovely lotus leaf platter.

This one must order....crispy fried fermented pork, to be eaten with bird eye chilis, chopped ginger and fragrant lime, some chives and crispy fresh cabbage. Basically this is like a street food which u can get anywhere in Bangkok. Somehow it's just nicer to be able to enjoy them in a proper setting like this.

My "towering high" hi-tea set - according to JS but it's definitely not as high as Baiyoke tower in Bangkok.

So let's see wat we have here. Some thai pork sausages, steamed otak, dumplings, kataifi prawns, pomelo salad and a chiang mai sausage. I lurve their sausages!!! so yummy!!!

banana fritters, pipping hot scones, my favourite kanom krog, beautiful cute "loke chubs", a chocolate cake :)))) happy days are here!!!!

every trip bounds to have something different. The main star on this platter was the mango sticky rice, this time around they served the choco cigar with toasty sesame seeds on it, and the famous traditional Thai desserts

bcoz I lurve the crab meat dumplings so much, we had to order more!!! hahahahaha. Freshly made and steamed upon ur order.

sorry pic wasn't great....hands must be shaking from over-excitement of all the food....and it's only for high tea :P Deep fried chicken with turmeric

Another Thai Pork Satay with fragrant rice. This is like almost a meal on its own!!!!

Prawn toast served with cucumber pickles on the side. There's so much of eggs around the toast I could not see the bread!!! so the yummsss~~~~~this was really a bomb in my mouth bcoz it's just so darn good. Must order!!! in terms of price, nothing really cost a bomb here...everything was just so affordable with such finesse and quality from the food, taste, texture and presentation. Not to mention 5 stars service.

and because I'm so into their crispy shell kanom krog with soft creamie fillings, Monkey had to order another plate. U can choose between fillings of sweet corns, spring onions or yam.

Whatever it is, this one u must order. I kinda forgotten wat it's called in Thai nor English coz when it comes to Thailand....JS speaks and writes That, so he did all the talking + ordering. My best bet would be to show them this awesome pic and your platter of crispy crunchy fermented fried pork will be served in no time. Pipping hot!!!

Post-operation Hi Tea

Mee Mee was hospitalised for an emergency. Seen here in this pic, she looked good and well but it was quite a pretend. Of coz it's painful and stressful and everything grey when u are in hospital. What's more when the doctor declared it an emergency and u had to be in the operating theatre the very same day.

It happened too fast and the Roomies were worried sick until dearie Teofu announced that all was good and she was sleeping soundly after the operation. Phewwww!!!!

The Roomies visited Mee Mee at her home after a few days....and we just can't gather together without the sight of FOOD, and we had to BRING FOOD wuahahahahaha.

Since it's an afternoon hi-tea for the tamchiak ladies, Monkey brought all the yummy goodies of fried yu tiau, malacca onde onde, ang ku kueh, Kuih jagung, kuih lapis, cream puffs, curry puffs and fried sesame balls. It was such a galore!!!

we actually forgot to ask the patient wat can she and cannot eat post operation.
-_-" that shows how greedy and tamchiak we were....esp me...coz I bought them >.<
Nee Lee oso brought pipping hot curry puffs near her home...
then all of us were busy whipping up some good old town roasted coffee, milo, milk tea to go with all these yummy goodies.

Poor patient aka Mee Mee was staring at all the food and asked if she can even drink coffee :P
Pic time before we indulge!!!
not pic of us but of the food!!!! hahahahaha

Monkey oso prepared some fruits skewers of kiwi and dragon fruits
The kiwi was...oh my......sour beyond description

it's all written on Shell Shell's face.....sourness beyond description...in fact need not any description. Bahahahaha.

Most of the stuffs were bought from Nyonya Colors and I Love You Tiao.

My favourite has to be the yu tiao dunked in old town coffee :))))) hehehehehe...yummsss!!!

Hyatt Erawan Tea Room, Bangkok

We lurve to drop by here for a casual hi-tea esp on a hot day....where we can just laze around and browse through some of their local publications. Thais are really creative ppl, even the layout of their magazine is so attractive and interesting.

Moreover it's run by the very same hotel we stayed at, so how convenient can it be? Monkey was here in December and was quite disappointed with their hi-tea set then.....it was a Christmas themed hi-tea set!!!!!

HORROR!!!!
most of the local Thai delicacies were placed with christmas stollen and some really uninteresting small bites with a "christmassy" feel
:"(( and after my stay, I wrote them 2 really really long emails....providing "feedbacks" on service, rooms, hotels, food, standard of operating systems etc. I call them feedbacks bcoz they were constructive. Followed up with comments and suggestions. In return he replied me twice really long emails too. LOL.

and 8 months later, I am proud to say they have further improved on their already 5-stars services. Especially on basic stuffs like making ppl queue at the same line for porridge and eggs station during breakfast? Imagine the long line of hungry guests crowding that corner?? So now they have re-structured their egg station.
Anyway back to the yummy hi-tea at Erawan Tea Room
We were really happy that it's the usual-wat-we-expected-of at this tea room
:))))))))))))))))
Fresh double cream, chunky strawberry jam and Thai fish sauce with coriander and chili flakes.
I lurve their tableware...so nice :))
even our hotel room have the similar plates :)))

so from the bottom u have the savoury local Thai snacks, followed by the must have Scones for any hi-tea with a mixture of Western and Thai. The top tier consist of the famous Sticky Rice with Thai Mango and fruits.

So so so happy and can't wait to chomp chomp nom nom...
This set is for one person :)))

the purple one is Steamed Flower Shaped Dumpling filled with crabmeat,
mini deconstructed Mieng Kam of roasted coconut, lime, chili and ginger with betel leaves in crispy basket.
Thai Style chicken curry puff - this one wasn't so exciting
Grilled marinated pork satay
Deep fried minced chicken with chili and mint leaves
and finally minced pork and peanuts on fresh pineapples

Deep fried fermented Isan Pork
while I was bz with my tea set....JS had his galore as well...
this one was really good. I highly recommend it...served with the usual Thai condiments of raw cabbage, spring onions, chopped lime, shallots, ginger and bird eye chillis and a Thai fish sauce dip.

so so yummy and good...very soon Monkey was busy stealing food from JS
JS: "Oiii this one is mine...go and eat yours."

tough decision, I have finished the savoury lower deck...

now to move on to scones or fruits???

it's not just the usual scones but buttery raisins scones!!! still pipping hot!!!
served with cream and strawberry jam from Chiang Mai - Northern Thailand

on this deck were:
Crispy rice pudding with toppings of taro, corn, spring onions and pumpkin famously known as "Kanom Krog"
sweet bean paste fruit shape - Luk Chup. Those small beautifully painted like mini fruits dessert
crispy sesame roll with the intensity of coconut milk
mini soft sinful chocolate cake and a mini passion fruit tart...
everything was bite-sized

JS also had pork satays with fluffy sticky thai rice
served with a special dip
wow there's a lot of MEAT there.

everyone here seemed to be ordering the hi-tea set...
seen on every single table!!!! hahahahaha

and finally Sticky Mango Rice and seasonal fruits skewer
aaAAAaaaaaa
after that I was really round and satisfied.

a really comfy Malaysian tourist who was snoring away after the hi-tea....
LOL!!!!!!!

yeah Malaysians can be quite rude and distasteful sometimes..
At KLIA, JS was just shaking his head...
"Wat's wrong?"
JS: "Look, can't they dress better to travel???"
and pointed to a bunch of Malaysian chinese...in baggy shorts and very-very-creased- t-shirts....but most of all in slippers...oh well not even Crocs mind u. They looked like they just woke up from bed and came to airport in the same attire that they wore to sleep.

"errrr maybe they are flying domestic?"
JS: "Yea we are now at the international side, how domestic can that be?"
"errrr maybe they are goin to some islands?"
JS just shrugged me off :P

yeah I sometimes do find our Msians travellers a bit of a hooligans. They do travel everywhere coz I hear them speaking Malaysian *if u know wat I mean?* but in terms of behavior it's really bad. If u think Singaporeans are Kiasu...try Msians...we are on the verge of joining the fellow PRC crowd..to speak as loud and behave as rude.

Anyway the high tea set cost about 350 Baht = RM 35
how price have increased over the years. No longer 250 nor 280
each set comes with tea/coffee of your choice...be it hot or cold.

Hi-tea at Hyatt Erawan, Bangkok

Afternoon tea at Hyatt Erawan is alwiz in my to-do list whenever in Bangkok
located on the 2nd floor of the building, afternoon tea is served daily from 2.30pm till 6.00pm.

I actually asked JS to snap a pic of the gal
coz I like her bag and her Melissa Jelly shoes :P
*yes amazing I can identify ppl's shoes from afar :P*

Thais are really fashionistas
everyone is so trendy and dressed to the nine
while JS and me were in our casual wear and slipper >.<

Erawan Tea Room has got an comfortable selection of teas and coffees
why did I use the word comfortable??? coz it's just nice and not too much
it made things so much easier upon ordering

Off Topic:
I was at TWG tea room Pavilion last week...nightmare
the TEA menu alone was 5 pages
with such wide selection, in the end u tend to choose the normal ones to save more brain cells instead of killing them.
One pot of tea in TWG = RM 18 (Mine) , RM 29 (biz associate)
and it was none refillable -_-"
2 pcs of Canele = RM 13.50

Since it was such a sunny hot day I opted for ice cold lemon mint tea
:))))))))))))))

fine porcelain for sugar holder
:)))))))))))) the design was very Versace

I really like their cutlery, specially designed for Erawan Tea Room
lotus plate and a knife with wooden panel
the tea set consisted of
Thai Chicken Curry puffs
deconstructed Mieng Kam on a pie tee basket *lurve this one so much*
steamed flower shaped dumplings with crab meat
steamed sago dumpling with minced meat and turnip
pork satay!!!
thai fish cakes with special chili dip :)))))))

these were the savoury selections of the set menu...
next came the sweet selections :))))))))
I'm such a happy gal looking at these :))))))))))))

sticks of freshly cut fruits
banana dumpling with grated coconut in banana leaf cones
freshly baked scones
my favourite Kanom Krog
green coconut puffs
egg rolls
and the cute small lil "look chub" = fruit shaped sweet bean paste

still hot fr the oven scones with fresh cream and strawberry jam
the jam was awesome with huge chunks of strawberries innit

oh yum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Greedy bugger in action >.<
Kanom Krog is crispy on the outside....warm and soft pudding-liked on the inside with different toppings of corn, yam and spring onions.
My favourite = corn and spring onions
lastly....the famous sticky rice mango
khao niao mak muang

Price has increased as compared to last year
2011 = 240 Bht = RM 24
2012 = 280 Bht = RM 28

at this price I can only get a pot of tea in TWG malaysia :P

anyway if u are in Bangkok and need a place to savour afternoon tea in a nice chic environment, this is it :))))
