Seafood at Bukit Tambun, Penang

weird looking mollusc....it was very very poke-y and spookie :P
out of curiosity we ordered a kilo to try

Bukit Tambun is in the mainland of Penang
and famous for its fresh seafood and most importantly.....it's DIRT CHEAP
however it failed to impress me coz apart fr its freshness
*well all fresh ingredients will definitely taste great*
there's basically not much of a variety and its fishes didn't come fr this part of the world
*mostly all fr Sabah -_-*

or perhaps we just went to the wrong shop
think Hai-boey in Penang Island is still the best :D
in terms of total dining experience from food, service, ambience to price

anyway back to the weird looking mollusc.....dunno wat it's called...
but it's crunchy and tasted muddy....like earth???
prollie it's fr shallow sea water or wat???

sweet and sour mud crabs....there's a lot of roe innit
but in terms of flava can do better

think we oso had a fish which was not in my pic bank....
and fresh mantis prawns - steamed with soy sauce

prollie I'll be more adventurous next time and try the other outlets as well
coz this place is nearby the swamp and prawn farms
with quite a number of outlets competing for your business

Parking is horrendous and narrow - only one lane
since it's so dirt cheap....pile urself up with anything & everything that they have :P

Penang Ho Chiak!!!!

We were at this last pit stop before leaving the island
Joo Hooi Cafe along Lebuh Keng Kwee, just off Penang Road.
*by the way it was a work trip, not leisure*

the famous asam laksa were fully loaded with fish in its sour spicy savoury soup

Monkey slurp-ed the whole bowl of wholesome goodness :D

lor bak here boleh tahan lar
am not a fan coz it's almost the same everywhere
just different varieties of condiments and selections

their char kuey teow was much better than "Sister's"
we had Sister's for breakfast and it was horrible
dun even deserved to be posted here

another specialty of this cafe is the Teochew cendol

just come here for the asam laksa la....
anyhow the best still has got to be at Air Itam market but then....
it's perpetually crowded and full of tourists
parking is also another problem

am craving for asam laksa now~~~~~

Cucur Udang

this is no simple Cucur Udang
specialty of Bukit Jawi Golf Resort
served with deep fried hard boiled egg *yeah the hard boiled egg were deep fried*
deep fried toufu
and the yummylicious thick peanut sauce

it's damn crunchy!!!!!
I think u can tell fr the pics above
with small lil shrimps, lotsa sweet onions, julienned spring onions
and the occasional surprise bites of hot spicy chili innit!!!!

this restaurant is not stranger to notti monkey's blog
a quaint eating place at the end of Penang after the Bayan Lepas airport

however pls do make reservations in advance as it is alwiz packed
and if there's certain items/seafood u want, pls oso book in advance.

Hai Boey has its own private beach
Dinos the Great was so eppy when he saw the beach + swing

1st dish was the peppery pig stomach soup
the stomach came separately

waiter then cut open the stomach to unveil a black chicken
which was heavily stuffed with ginkgo nuts
stomach full of treasure

and its soup

very fresh fish stewed in claypot
it was so sweet

steamed clams in imperial stock
which was laced with tonnes of garlic

simple stir fried french beans

bali tong

slow cooked winter melon with stuffed goodies innit

with mushrooms, SEA CUCUMBER, ABALONE, scallops and more sea cucumbers :)))))

star of the nite was this
deep fried huge mantis prawns

*at least 30cm in length*
fried with salted egg yolk
finger licking good :D

We were at Kafe Ping Hooi for the famous Char Kuey Teow
the one with DUCK eggs and lard :P

mee suah with bouncy fish balls and meaty meat balls
the meat balls were packed with MEAT

truly authentic loh bak
with the crispy pork in fermented beancurd, century eggs with pickled ginger
and the usual meatroll in beancurd skin
fried to golden brown :D

this place is at Carnarvon Street
and yes later on we did ask the Uncle to switch the fans on

this is Mr. Yeow
and u will alwiz see him in this blue shirt
his uniform :P

he operates daily from 8am onwards

huge crunchy prawns
sometimes if u r lucky, when Mr. Yeow has bamboo clams
aaAAAaaaaa
that would be the best
