CNY Dinner @ Noble House

The host brought additional abalone to top up the existing dish of Lou Hei. Seen here the selected waitress was busy topping it up as she spoke of well wishes for all around the table. She was definitely selected to serve the family for her top notch service, understanding and values. I liked her too :)))

Last Sunday, Monkey & JS were the lucky few to be invited for a family gathering by the Vs - Victor, Viola and Vivian....and of coz their lovely and kind mother. We last met their home to watch the 1st January fireworks before flying down to Singapore for another New Year gathering with the Singapore peeps.

Next dish was the double boiled soup with chinese long cabbage. Somehow scallops and long cabbage is like a good marriage. :)))) I-Ching taught me to boil some and I will try it this weekend.

It's such a blessing to congregate like this...though we couldn't do it as many times as we wanted to...as most of us are travelling most of the time...and this dinner was set on the first week of January to block everyone's schedule. Soon the Vs gonna head to Hawaii and the MW + Papa Bear are goin to Italy. While JS will be flying off to Japan and me Monkey??? no where to go...so I'll be rawking Malaysia hahahaha.

With my new job *which is so not new anymore* travelling for leisure isn't as easily planned as before. But I am really eppy with what I am doin right now, so travelling has got to wait for a lil while more :)))

more abalone!!! yippeeeee with its imperial stocks cooked on the spot, it was really succulent and delicious. Someone once told me that abalone has got high cholesterol by weight....so...err...*gulped* then *burped*.Looks like my appetite ruleeezzzzzz but oh well we must have balance in life for we don't indulge in abalone every single day....err maybe during CNY we did!!!!

You.Are.My.Love!!!!

perfectly roasted by the Head Chef...it's really a big different when being roasted by the head chef. Only the Vs can request this to be done by head chef...for it takes hours to prepare. The skin was so so so thin and crispy.

the skewer left a mark on the skin with a small dot where it went through....Oh u come to mama!!!!!

The rest of the piglet were chopped to smaller pieces and deep fried with salt and pepper. This was really really awesome too and I ate far too much till I was bursting outta my cheongsam. Lurve the baby ribs part.

Monkey was telling Ori-San to take the ribs it's the best part....and someone told him to take the trotter it's the best...while another said the head is a must!!! Poor Ori-san ended up with different parts on his plate. Yes the very same Ori-san of Oribe sushi, speaking of which it's time to visit his restaurant soon.

There was a fish dish and we ate it so fast outta respect, Monkey forgot to snap pics. Yes must alwiz respect the food that's being killed for you, and prepared with so much technique and skills. At least u dun let the piglet died in vain right??? hahahaha why am I being so philosophical when food is just food. But we did devour the entire piglet, nothing was left to waste.

WAHHH this claypot waxed meat rice is a must for every Chinese New Year!!! Those days, all these preserved meat were air dried by the autumn wind/breeze. And it would be ready for consumption by Chinese New Year...well that was in China....these days they used machine to air dry the preserved meat in a more hygienic method.

Some rice and a lil bit of everything :))))))
It was so so so good that I had 2 bowls...and JS proudly announced he had 3
-_-"

a 1920 maidera
we were so so lucky to share this for it's the Vs' mommy's birth year. Same like me!!! we are both monkeys :)))) she smiled to me in glee.

We had so many other wines and bcoz JS is the wines photog these days, I didn't snap any. So so blessed to be able to taste each and every bottle of it contributed by the guests and hosts.

and finally what is Chinese New Year without fried Nian Gao aka sweet rice cakes!!!! It looked so crispy right? They were indeed awesome and crispy :)))

thinly sliced fluffy yam and sweet potatoe sandwiched the nian gao in the middle. We lurve it for it's not sweet at all. Yummmzzzzzzzz. Still one of our favourite chinese restaurant in town :)))

Thank you to the Vs for such an amazing dinner and gathering. Looking fwd to our next session :)))

Birthday celebration at my favourite restaurant :))

We've been eating and drinking since the sun rose early in the morning, so by late afternoon....I can't really remember wat we've been doin. So pardon me for being so quiet the last few days for I had to recall the itinerary of that very beautiful day.....a day where I celebrated my birthday with my dearest friends in Ipoh.

Seen here entertaining myself...yeah coz I dunno wat was I hitting on the piano. Prollie sound pollution.

after the piano, Monkey hijacked Caden's violin to his dismay
"Heeey that's mine!!!"
nvm, lemme try lemme try....I wanna play too. Yeah I am a big kid.

Host and Hostess who arranged all the makan itinerary and the logistics part of the entire group. THANK YOU :))))

Monkey trying to look sober :P
anyway I was quite sober by dinner time....boxes and boxes of stemware were wheeled into the private room, not to mention the stunning wines which we were about to consume :))))

Such a treat :)))) the wine with the banana leaf, 2 eyes and 3 grapes. Hehehehe the winemaker gonna come after us for labeling them this way. It symbolizes the interaction of God, people and nature.

and so there were 2 tables being setup all ready for dinner.....
As usual there were some guests who refused to be photographed for privacy purpose. I've been receiving many request of late to omit them off my blog. :D

and dinner commence with her :)))

and a special order of this :))))))
we believe in consumption of sustainable shark fins. Go read about it.

This one was very very special on extremely special request. The Chef himself peeled the fresh crab meat on the very same day with his dedicated team. The crab roes were set aside for this dish, plenty of it hence the color of the soup was rather orangie :))) Chunks of awesome goodness were concocted in this soup with sliced sea cucumber for that extra texture.

Dish of the nite for me :))))

hello piggy, u have no idea how yummy u were!! Oh that sounded so wrong but then if you have to be sacrificed for my birthday, it has to be prepared and cooked with utmost respect and skills. Chef personally roasted you piggy...with his gloved hands rolling u side to side on the metal skewer over fire.

J&J Jelina looked skeptical.....she's training hard to climb Mount Fuji and was deciding hard should she have another piece :))))) Tough decision!!!

steamed deep sea fish :))) look at all the fatty gelatinuous parts of the head :))) all soaked in its own jus....yumminess beyond descriptions

they called this "har lork"
for me it's giant yummy umami prawns. Deep fried then cook in special homemade soya sauce.

they should just call this fist prawns bcoz it's the size of my fist. Do u know that the size of our stomach = the size of our fist? one fist of coz.

You'll be surprise that this restaurant also makes really good peasant food...such as this hakka stuffed tofu. Ipoh has got one of the best tofu thanks to its "hard water", high in mineral content.

Who can resist these babies? :)))

Don't let this dish betrayed you for its looks. It may be lacking in presentation but full in flavors. Comfort food of slow braised yam and pork belly.

Monkey and her Yoshitomo Nara iPhone cover. Was so happy to have visited his art exhibition recently in Hong Kong that I had to own his books and merchandises.

"JS does she look like me???"

JS told me, looked more like this painting by Yoshitomo Nara
-_-"
geeee thanks....I didn't know that the perception of myself in your mind is as such....with evil gangsta eyes and flaring nostrils. Okie readers, bcoz I am so in love with Nara, I will dedicate a special posting to him :))

Yeah both of us agreed that she's definitely not one year old!!!!

Make a wish or plenty of wishes....and I saw picture of my ciggie box there -_-" ishhhh

Caden said "no eyes see" coz she's definitely not one year old!!!!

Thank you guys!!!! Such a great celebration with loved ones and amazing food and wines...and champagnes *hic*

Stunning line-up all prepared and curated by Mr. JS. He managed to dig out 2 bottles of magnums bcoz there's almost 20 of us, Yeah only 6 person gave permission to be photographed, the rest of the guests just X-ed themselves.

Kee Kee went to the famous stall nearby and got us these crispy apom for desserts. The fragrant nose of coconut milk soon penetrated our senses. When he bought in hundreds, everyone commented it's impossible to finish.....but.....all gone...and friends added that it must be consumed while it's still warm and crispy on the edges. Hence the speed of consumption...chomp chomp nom nom -_-"

and we paired it with a bottle of Chateau d'Yquem.....perfect end to our dinner.

Thank you my dearest friends for such a great birthday celebration. I ate and drank so much *hopefully I've gained back my weight!!!* Monkey is so blessed to have them in her life. Love always :)))

by the way my favourite restaurant in Ipoh is :)))))

Ipoh Stadium Food Centre

Wok fried Rice noodle aka beehoon
Where's the noodle??? hahahaha we just lurve the beans sprouts from Ipoh. Fat, juicy and crunchy!!! One can go crazy at this food centre next to the stadium. It has many stalls with a variety of food from malay chinese indian. Not only it's cheap but really good, definitely value for money.

This plate of fried noodle has got such intense breathe of fire....its wok must be melting from the torch of its stove. Hahahahaha really really good and ain't easy to fry beehoon to this dry texture.
If u are not a fan of beehoon, there's always the velvety flat rice noodles aka kuey teow. A raw egg was added in before they serve this for that extra moist and yummmnesss~~~~~the chili sauce was pretty good too!!

The wan tan noodle is very good here too, just that we didn't have any more space to eat...since this was an interlude between our many breakfasts before lunch which was scheduled to start at 12pm sharp.

something new that we tried this trip - Pork innards soup.

The broth was pretty intense with sourness from the "kiam chye", some julienned ginger. I'm not an innard person but the crispy fried intestines were so good. You can also opt for fish meat if u are not a pork innards person.

Mixed fruits rojak....with thick yummy and stick shrimp paste...very very balanced, enuff of acidity and sweetness.

Finally to quench our thirst after all these sinful food.....something light and refreshing - shaved iced with lemon juice. By that time, it's already 11.45am. Time to head off for lunch....this was not our first breakfast...some of us had dim sum early in the morning...

and this hakka noodle earlier nearby the hotel.

If u are in Ipoh, u should really pay a short visit to this food centre by the stadium. Parking could be difficult, but the food here is good and cheap :)))
