My usual Weekend Breakfast

yummy and healthy vegetarian sandwich on crispy warm toasted ciabatta
innit it were feta cheese, sun dried tomatoes, aubergines, fresh tomatoes, onions, and crunchy lettuce

we all know breakfast is like the most important meal of the day
somehow all of us just tend to skip it
*cept for coffee :P*

I suppose the key is T.I.M.E.
all of us just rush in and out to work
preferring to sip our potent drinks on the desk
or just grab watever that's edible along the way.

Monkey only has got time to do her slow breakfast with much enjoyment on weekends....
that's usually full breakfast....with fruits *usually a banana, wat else*
with savoury munches followed by sweet ones
and yes I LURVE EGGSSSSSSS
my sweet munch - soft doughnut with that extra crunch on its outer layer, dusted with sugar
and in the middle was blueberry jam!!!!!
to change to a better lifestyle perhaps I should switch all my meetings to morning
instead of having sinful lunch let's do breakfast
instead of munching on afternoon tea with all the sugary stuffs...let's do breakfast
and instead of having happy hours drinking away with all the yummy cocktail at 5pm.....let's do breakfast

what do you think? :))))
I'm sure I can do this.....but at the end of the day it will be a one way meeting
attended only by ME :P
kakakkakakakakakaka

perhaps I should also learn how to prepare simple breakfast at home
*currently it's only Indriya brew by Nespresso + Milk*
**no no that does not count as breakfast**

hmmm pancakes??? waffles??? anyone????
:)))))))))))))

Deep Fried Siakap *by JS*

Note: all pics taken with JS's iPhone 3Gs *yes haven't change to 4G yet*

This place is a hidden gem in Johor Bahru in the Pasir Putih area at the end of the Pasir Gudang Highway after the industrial area. It is reminiscence to your typical neighborhood malay makan stall with all the standard lauk lauk(side dish in Malay language)and red white checkered table cloth. However this stall has something special to offer and definitely the signature dish and worth a mention.
A favorite amongst locals, the restaurant is called Kedai Makan Rahmat(literally translated to Rahmat eating shop) and is situated on the shores opposite Singapore(like a couple of hundred meters from Singapore). You can actually see marine vessels sailing by with their containers of goods, etc and the view is of somewhat serene and reminds me of the east coast of Malaysia.
see the barge with containers in the distant.
a tranquil Malay fishing kampung environment adds to your total dining experience.

It is a casual restaurant with lots of eager staff serving you. On the way to your table, simply go to the food counter and point out what you want............and don't forget
to order this one....... It is deep fried the moment you place your order.

Sizzling and crackling deep fried siakap(Barramundi in English)
and served with this very basic but tasty sauce made from calamansi, shallots, green chilly and sweet soya sauce. A perfect combo when eaten with the deep fried siakap.

In addition you can also order your common malay neighborhood stall food such as...............
tempeh(fermented soya bean) in sambal.
acar cucumber.
stir fried string beans with anchovies.

And indeed they have many other curries and rendangs so just remember to go in a big group so you can savor everything on the menu!

free dessert!!!

This place is open only during lunch and if you are early(like before 12 noon) then no issue with sitting. Should you intend to be there after 12 noon, making a reservation would be prudent.

telephone nos is on the tyre incase!

One last mention.......remember to wash your hands cos you need to eat with your hands to appreciate the food to the fullest :)

Fishing in the South China Sea *by JS*

This was a pre planned fishing trip in Sabah to accomodate Prince C's request and besides it's been ages since i last went out fishing so it will be a nice change from golfing :)
As we approach the pier( i wouldn't call it a jetty......just a boat parking area) we were met with our first challenge.
Yes, to board the fishing boat(which looks like a refugee boat from Myammar!!!!) we have to manuveur this boarding plank!! Somewhat reminds me of the movie "pirates of the caribbean"!! In addition one also need to carry your own gear and balance so can be quite daunting for some.
The boat does not look as bad .........facilities include the following.
there are actually bunks so not that bad.
and this is the kitchen which was quite well equipped.

i shall not show you the toilet........don't want to spoil the mood......hehe :)
so the captain set the course and we were on our way.........

as you can see the weather was good........
The journey out took a couple of hours cos the boat only does about 8 to 9 knots........i call this the "speed that kills" cos you run out of patience waiting to reach your destination :) and all you see is miles and miles of empty ocean..........and all you hear is the chugging of the 500hp cummins turbo diesel engine and after a while you can actually pick up a rhythm coming from the engine............probably out of boredom
yawnnnnnnnnnnn

for some, fishing also must got style one :)
and also take time off to pak toh !!
eager beaver James of J&J
Bernard da joker rigging the fishing lines for everybody cos all only know how to fish and dunno how to rig lines!!!
thats Bernard da joker "threatening" captain Ah Tat.......if no fish.......you know what i am going to do???
by the time we arrive at our destination 4 hours due west of Kota Kinabalu, the sun was about setting.
so we fished and fished till nightfall. That's Eveline flipping the fish on board..........very aggressive eh......the fish i meant :)
We actually fished the whole night and come morning the deck hands cooked us this breakfast.
i call this tai wok chow fun(literally translated to big wok fried noodles).......garlic, soya sauce and noodles.....very basic.
nevertheless some people damn hungry as you can see!
some of the fishes caught the night before........they look small cos no reference size but are actually quite big so you wildlife conservationist don't panic k :)
thats a hugh one..........the spanish mackeral i meant !
the author with his catch which is call chut sing pan in chinese and coral trout in English.
some more fishes. The silver color one is call Cermin in Malay and reef runner in English. The red one is another coral trout.
Prince C with his catch.
This is the view of Mt Kinabalu from out there........Got my mind thinking this must have been the same view that Admiral Zheng He saw when he passed this way in the 1400AD.

Sabah is still a great place to fish albeit negative comments and i am sure many fishing enthusiast in the region agree. One can rent the boats for about RM2000 on an over night excursion however be warned that the facility is minimal and basic! Due to high demand forward planning and booking is a prerequisite. Well, you know who to contact should you decide to go :)
