I am finally home after all these~~~~

*pic stolen from event organiser*

Fireworks at the closing dinner and awards presentation 2 nites ago
I would like to start this posting with a "booming" pic
which was also stolen elsewhere
coz I didn't bring my camera, and the only gadget I've got there was my phone and iPad

and last nite Monkey touched down safely in KLIA fr the Mystical island at freaking 8.45pm
looking red, fatique and hungry~~~~~
trust me, the food in Langkawi could be better but it just didn't.....
*pic stolen from event organiser*

Buoys being prepared by the men every single morning
these were set out in the sea as "markers" for the race
they have their very own special speed boat that fetched them out to the sea
and floated at special designated position

well I guess they uses GPS to place them
coz the sea is so vast and it seemed so "lost" out in the open
everyday there's different races at different location around the island
*finally my own pic fr my iPhone hiak hiak hiak*

everyday the weather is looking like this....overcast early in the morning
followed by very very hot sun in the afternoon and ended up with RAIN
GAHHHHH
but this year the Regatta enjoyed very very very good wind
well in sailing u need wind dont' cha?

something I really need to post up about the hospitality on this island
everyone is so so so warm and welcoming
the Locals here are a true living example of 1Malaysia
there isn't segregation of colors, races, religion but everyone is a Malaysian here

Locals here worked as a team, together to achieve their goals
there isn't the lazy bums nor the calculative one
they worked overtime for the event with dedication
but most of all they worked so happily and joyfully with each other

Life isn't hectic
they can find time in between work and lunch hour to fetch their kids to fro school
home to work is 10 minutes away
everywhere is just so near away
and not to mention the island is also duty free
hot steamed rice, deep fried fish cooked in spicy sambal sauce with baby starfruits, stir fried cabbage with vermicelli and chili onion omelette

the above was actually "staff food"
meaning food cooked for working team members to be eaten
and definitely not for Monkey bcoz I am not considered their working member

after 3 days suffering from the "customised event" menu....I think I had enuff
*u know the usual ang moh food like chicken chop, burgers, steaks, fries, sandwiches etc*
guess my face showed so much....they actually asked me if I dun mind eating their "staff food"
and I had to ask wat's the food like for "staff food"
*hey Monkey be thankful and just eat...dun b choosy*

"Staff food" are usually served on the catering stainless steel trays to be picked up buffet style
whenever the staffs have got time to eat
and not to mentioned, served inside their hot wet kitchen

the team was SO SO SO SO SO SO DARN NICE & SWEET
they actually served it like the above to me!!!!!!!!
on a nicely roundly cut banana leaf the size of a plate
with extras like cut tomato and cucumber, topped with fried shallots and 2 pieces of papadam
I mean it's not like something gourmet but their kind thought of serving it this way

oooOoooooo trust me the "staff food" was so much more delicious than the usual chunky burgers with thick fries!!!!!
plus they didn't charge me for it -_-"

"it's staff food...it's free!!!!"
Monkey: "but I'm not even staff & took your portion plus u have got nothing to eat!!!"
"Nvm I had fried rice today :))))"
Monkey: "but u still need to charge me coz I ORDERED it"
"It's OK I'll serve the same for u tomorrow.....think it's chicken tmrw"

:)))))))))))))))))))))))))))
*pic stolen from the event organiser*
everyday all the international teams took onto the water with new determination
amid the ferocious winds, some team suffered broken sail, disappointments and lost hope
they had a great time
bcoz everyone is just so so friendly here
it's almost like there isn't a competition at all!!!!!

and finally newcomer Hooligan won the Regatta
leading the points everyday, they really deserved this
*pic stolen from Event Organiser*
and on the Final Night, it was the prize presentation
with Guest of Honor - Tun Dr. Mahathir and his beloved wife Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah
among the Royalties, all the Panglima panglima and more Tuns and Tunkus, Tan Sri Datin Sri
the list was loooOOoooong

we had a good weather that evening, watched the sunset over the horizon together
with laughter heard over the deck
yep the dinner was held under the starry starry nite at the deck with a swimming pool by the harbour
*pic stolen from Event Organiser*

and the final prize presentation to Team Hooligan
can u spot Tun Dr Mahathir next to the owner of the boat Mr. Blackmore
Mr. Blackmore is also the skipper for his team
*pic stolen from Event Organiser*
after all the formal speeches and prize presentation
it was time to let ur hair down and partay!!!!!!

well at this Duty Free island the alcos never run dry!!!!
the tap kept on flowing golden liquid be it champagne or beer
drink all u want till u can't drink no more
*pic stolen fr Event Organiser*

I've alwiz like fire blower though I've already know their tricks
hahahahaha
he actually let everyone try on it
and before I know it, the pool was full
hahahaha they were actually dancing inside the pool
arms were waving, hands were splashing, heads were swinging
guess they had too much to drink
and if u r not too careful and stand too near...
u might as well got urself pushed/pulled down
the above pic was taken METRES away with zoom hahahahaha, hence the quality

didn't matter where u came from Australia, NZ, America, Europe, or Asia
everyone had a great time and made so many new friends
Westin Resort & Spa
the next day......everyone was trying to be sober
the skippers and their team were busy washing and tying their boats
to prepare for its sail back to their home country/ next destination
Yacht Club staffs were busy unpacking and washing
and us....busy dismantling our showcases as well
ready to be shipped back to Switzerland

we managed to finish early and steal some time to chill out at Westin
of coz we didn't stay at Westin
hahahahhahahaha
at this peak period, it's just too expensive
prollie another time or at least for the final nite we'll stay here
yummy looking San Har Hor Fun at Westin
it looks yummy huh?

the hor fun was excellent with "breathe of fire"
but the huge ass prawn wasn't fresh and as usual a "heavy" complained was lodged
the waiting staff actually push the head chef out to explain to us
poor chef, he looks like he couldn't handle us so we weren't too hard on him

well another year another regatta
till we meet again folks!!!!

Excerpt from Event Organiser on a story with all the BOAT/Team name innit!!!
very creative!!!!

Once Upon a Time……

At long last all the racing in at the Royal Langkawi International Regatta had come to a close for 2012. The FREEWIND sent all the boats happily to shore where it was time to head to the CABARET in PHOENIX. The noise from the HI FI there could easily cause a TANTRUM for the whole ROYAL QUEENSLAND YACHT SQUADRON! SMYSTERY to me how NINA and EVELINE could happily dance the JING JING with a drink of BAIANA in each hand!

At the bar NIJINSKY was in BEAUX ESPRITS to be sitting next to MATA HARI and KAMALA. Then in walked that RASCAL SKANDIA, which we all suspected was only a NOM DE PLUME for WARISAN DUYONG. Nevertheless, he complained in FORTISSIMO voice how HAFFIMAN had gone out and lost MY TOY.

We knew that SMU didn't MIND THE GAP at SEA LEVEL so when he tucked the SKYBIRD into his KATSU it was inevitable that VIRGO and UTARID would come running out to meet him.

Meanwhile, that HOOLIGAN JELIK said goodbye to TEAM LANGKAWI and took a rocket out to URANUS to use the ATM for some money to get chicken at MYA/KFC at the megamall FANTASIA.

:))))))))))))))))
well I know it doesn't make sense but it was still good
:)))))))))))))))))

Langkawi Cable Car

Cable cars are definitely not Monkey's cuppa tea/coffee
coz I am terribly afraid of heights...
wat's more with this Longest Single Span Single Rope Cable Car at 919.5m
that translates to almost a kilometre!!!

it is the World's Steepest Cable car at 42 degrees..
errrrrr I dun care if u are the longest, biggest, sharpest, prettiest, tallest
my question is are u SAFE?????
coz the team made it a point to ride this major attraction in Langkawi
Monkey had to follow suit....with trembling hands and jelly legs
at the beginning it was a slow comfortable HOT ride...
okie lar...not too bad....
and we were heading towards the highest mountain in the whole of Langkawi
errrrr did u just say highest????????
later...we could see the sea..
unconsciously I was holding tight to Mommy Jacky and Baby Wei
think their arms got bruises from my tight grip
smile Monkey...smile for the camera....just one shot!!! come on smile!!!!!
there's a reason why I sat in the middle with my back facing the best-est view
:P
I couldn't breathe I felt claustrophobic and wished we didn't come here at all
Chris da Boss was not helping either swinging the tiny cable car and singing as loud as he could
T_T
"'U WAIT!!! LATER WHEN WE ARE DOWN I'M GONNA KILLLLLLL YOU GGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR"
Chris da Boss: "La la la la la la la la la~~~~~~~"
OMG still very very long way to go....this was the view after we past the 1st
GAWD GAWD GAWD
pls be QUICK!!!!!
in between the mutters of GAWD and OMG and more mutters
I have time to catch a few glimpses of the beautiful view
"WOWOOOOWWW look at that...so cantik!!!! Baby Wei faster snap pic!!!! OMGGG so scarrrry when are we gonna reach?"
"GAWD GAWD GAWD GAWD GAWD"

I bet my team were -_-" throughout the journey coz I was mumbling to myself
entertaining myself to distract my fear
talking to myself
while continuing to crush both my seat mates arms and hands
at the 2nd station, we could see the Curved Hanging Bridge
"We gonna go there later???"
Everyone: "Yes Monkey"

WUUUWEHHHHH I DOWAN!!!!!!!!!
the final and 3rd station with two double storey circular viewing deck
every evening, u'll get a spectacular sunset here
after alighting the tiny cable car...
I had to wait a few minutes for blood to return back to my legs to walk again
and then we scaled down the paved road to the hanging curved bridge
on the way we could see the blue Andaman Sea
:))))))))))))))))))
ok we've been here already can we go now????
"Monkey we must cross over and check the view on the other side"
OMGGGG how the heck am I gonna survive this!!!!!
the wind was blowing ferociously, I had to hold on to my hat all the time....
Monkey was so tiny...the wind can almost blow her away~~~~~

OMGGGGGGGGGGG
so long!!!!!!
and I clinged onto Mommy Jacky like a Koala bear
dragged my feet and moved like a statue across
"U must conquer your fears!!!!!"
ok ok ok I can do this!!!!
Can I just close my eyes and walk???
everyone -_- NO!!!!

I kept looking back to see how far we were....
coz once we were too far out....dun think there's a point of return!!!!

however I must say, the view was awesome and SPECTACULAR
really really worth all my fears
*maybe I should wear pampers here next time...almost pissed!!!!*
kekekekkekekekekekekkekekeke
the ladies insisted we snap a pic right in the middle of the curved bridge
over the Andaman Sea
see my right hands were glued to Mommy Jacky's arm since we stepped INTO the cable car at the bottom of the Mountain
I was her siamese twin

I didn't know how I survived this
really high blood pressure man!!!!

However I highly recommend this place...
must go!!!!

Telaga Tujuh, Langkawi

We saw Telaga Tujuh on every Langkawi brochure and listed it as a must visit
telaga = wells
so we concluded it must be a hot spring....:P
but it wasn't.....very very hilarious!!!!
in order to get up there...one needs to climb 300+ steps up to Gunung Mat Cincang
*the name is already so salah*
while purchasing ice cream and drinks at the foot of the Mountain.....we were told it's only a 10 minutes climb
WTH!!!! it was like a 30 minutes climb and we didn't stop much
aiyooo when are we gonna reach to the top??????

then we were at the top....and asked a few locals there..
where's the hot spring????
O_O and we found out the hard truth....it's a WATERFALL and not hot springs!!!
GAHGAHGAHGAH I want my free spa!!!!!
the next logical thing we looked for was...
"where's the waterfall??"
*slaps forehead*

U can actually see the andaman sea right fr here...and we were standing right at the top of the waterfall
the edge of the stones.....was the FALL
it was pretty dangerous and we didn't wanna go near it

well after all the huffing and puffing up the 300+ steps we wanna make sure it's worth it
so why do they name it Telaga instead of air terjun?
the water carved all the stones into 7 wells before leading to the main fall
guess this geographical process took thousands of years

legend has it...that the fairies came down here to frolic and bathe.
and so the 3 angels who took 30 mins to climb finally get to bathe on its icy cold water
aaaAAAaaaaa soothe my feet after all the climb....
and this is one of its "carved wells"
pretty weird...coz it's really rounded like wells with water flowing into it
and then to the next one and the next
and we actually counted...in total there were 7 wells!!!

Baby Wei wat r u doin up there???? come and join us!!!!
yes the water was REALLY REALLY ICY COLD!!!!
on a hawt hawt sunny afternoon
the water was very clear too.....
and to make our climb worth it..
we spent bout an hour here until some weird fella started snapping our pics
definitely not a safe place
not safe to climb, rocks were slippery, no proper facility
and lots of hooligans aka mat motor

supposed a visit to this place to check out its Andaman Sea view is enuff
:P

Mangrove Tour in Langkawi

This was my very first mangroves outing...
never in my ever imaginable mind that I'll do this but heck it was FUN!!!!!

Baby Wei booked us a 4 hours tour with a licensed guide
Mr. Guide thought we were from Hong Kong......
with one papa-san and all his chicks -_-
and off we go...the 4 of us + Mr. Guide + Abang Mat Boat
weather was extremely lovely
very good for photography :)))
1st stop was a bat cave....
my first visit to a bat cave....yes I know I'm a city slicker :P
so Mr. Guide was pointing to us and explaining the formation of stalactities and stalagmites

u are forbidden to touch these beautiful solidified minerals
bcoz the residue/oil/dirt fr your hands can disturb its growth
and it takes a hell long of time to grow a milimetre
when we were inside the bat cave Monkey was fanning and squealing like a mad woman
everyone was -_-"
Chris da Boss: "I shy to bring u out man!!!!"
"NO!!! but look they are flying and pissing everywhere!!!!"

think I'm more scared of all the poisonous snakes under the wooden plank we were walking on
the smell bats urine and shit were horrible
but hell u dun get to see this everyday don't ya????
it's cute to see the formation of baby bats clinging onto the ceiling of the cave
and another group of adults bats on the other side...
each marking their territory
and alas we saw lights and were out of the cave
it was quite claustrophobic inside
next was the bird watching
*this one GOE's favourite*
sorry folks no pics, coz the moment I wanna snap...the beautiful bird just flew off
no wonder GOE alwiz taught me the rule of 4 seconds...just need to stay still and be ready with all your gears
we saw many beautiful ones....in different colors
and Mr. Guide gave us a catalogue to identify them
this one was the flower of the mangrove tree
the whole stick hung on the tree and when it's ripe, will drop off
with the law of gravity the whole stick will drop vertically onto the mud, lodge there
and ready to root
and the fruit part will open up and ready for photosynthesis and survive!!!
mangroves are very important to the coastal line

Mr. Guide
also explained its role during the 2004 tsunami
the reason that Langkawi was not hit at all *except one man died due to heart attack then*
was the multiple islands "wrapping" the main Langkawi island which broke the waves of tsunami
and the vast mangroves which covered 3/4 of the island

the mangroves acted as a "breaker" and decreased the size of the tsunami
folks in Langkawi only suffered very low tide followed by extremely high tide during tsunami
with almost zero casualty....well except that only one man

but the most important role of mangroves was the ecosystem of the sea organism
bcoz it offers a very unique and quiet marine base for the young organism to survive
small fishes, crabs, shrimps called the roots of the mangroves their base...
without these small organism there won't be bigger ones which in the end ended up on our dining table
:P
the stick of the fruit is rather sturdy and can survive for a very long long time
Mr. Guide then peeled it to show us the multiple layers

Mr. Guide: "See the soft part here...this one is monkeys favourite part"
at this juncture everyone shifted their eyes to me
-_-" I don't eat this lar!!!!

Baby Wei said she wanna try first
so sedap or not?????

it was a very educative tour...
thank you Baby Wei for arranging this :)))
we had heaps of fun!!!!!!!
