Taffy's Birthday

This is Taffy......she's 9 years old
or was it 10??? sorry, this auntie is 3 times ur age but her memory is like 10 times ur age. Monkey was invited over for her lil birthday small-do. Actually it was an adult-do and Taffy was the reason we get to have desserts >.<

We were not allowed to smoke, swear and behave insensibly in front of Taffy
a few years ago, Monkey was made to apologize to Taffy bcoz I used the F word in front of the dog. Plus, I didn't used it on her....but according to the Mother, bcoz Taffy heard it and it's quite traumatizing for a lil dog........so I apologised but I didn't mean it...........pfffftttttttttttttt.
The Mother for the very first time COOKED for us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've known her for 7 bitchy years and she never made anything edible for me....-_-" Even the watermelon she usually brought for dinners were cut by her maid >.<

so bcoz I finally get to enjoy her cooking......which was so rare...I didn't mind to jam all the way to her home.....hahahahahahaha
No Bak Kut Teh is complete without the bird eye chilis and finely chopped garlic, served with a mixture of dark soya sauce and the usual light soya sauce.
yea that was a single portion with plenty of ribs, enoki mushrooms and yummy goodness... Very very delicious homemade Bak Kut Teh. The Mother sourced the herbs from a very reliable source. But the best bit was the Shallot Oil rice...yummsssss. I don't usually consume this much carbs for dinner but soon the gigantic bowl of Bak Kut Teh with the rice were gone.....not a single grain was visible.

Yue Tiao was bought.....hahahahahaha...if she made this I will kneel down in front of her in admiration. :))))))))))

sensing our needs for greens, the Mother also prepared freshly blanched lettuce with oyster sauce and more shallots oil.

Taffy and Lil Monster.

It's time to blow the candle....we were searching frantically for a candle...and it had to involve the Father and the neighbours. Yea wat did the Father teach u? To love and respect your neighbours bcoz u'll never know....one day u'll need them...esp in time like this where u needed a guiding light....a candle....HAHAHAHA.

We were bz snapping pics and left Taffy with Lil Monster together
Lil Monster: "Mommy can u see me?"

Lil Monster: "Can u? Can u?"
-_-"
like mother like daughter....camwhores....

Lil Monster: "Taffy.....noooooo....go away!!!"

it's not ur birthday Lil Monster....get off the chair!!!
soon we had to sort out the dog, the monster and the candle...

Monkey and the Sexay Back were sweating fr all these "Activities"
phewwwww keeping a dog and a child ain't easy...definitely not my cup of tea/coffee

Finally~~~~~~~
Happy Birthday Taffy!!!!! We know u enjoyed the heavenly Durian Cake so so so much. That includes Lil Monster...she finished the entire cake and was so hyper until 11.30pm that evening. The Mother then screwed me :P

All were well, the Monkey and the Sexay Back went back safely with no casualty. We graciously thanked the Mother for her yummy cooking, kissed Lil Monster goodnite and hugged Taffy for a bit.

The End...of my daily morning ramblings~~~

Home Cooked 15 minutes Crab Bee Hoon

Hello Mr. Clawie....I m soooo gonna eat ya!!!! He was still swimming in the tank an hour ago before being killed/prepared by a professional at a certain seafood restaurant.

Since Monkey was so into Jamie O's 15 minutes meal....JS decided he didn't wanna be left out and prepared his....according to his recipe. HAHAHAHAHAHA

yes it really took only 15 minutes to cook this dish. I guess in cooking, it's the preparation that takes time...not the cooking process :P Unless if u are roasting or sous-vide-ing some meat.

Mise-en-place of coriander leaves, onions, spring onions, ginger and garlic, fish sauce.

yes it's all about the preparation that takes time. But JS is really efficient bcoz he chops and slices like a pro :))))))) and poor me had to wash all his utensils like a errrr...actually I just merchandise them into the dishwasher ....heeeeeeeee my favourite appliance at home.............heeeeeeeeeee

a quick stiry fry of onions, garlic, spring onions with some canola oil

I dunno wat's the difference of using different types of oil produce diff aroma. There's grapeseed oil, corn oil, olive oil, extra virgin olive oil, first pressed olive oil, not-to-be-cooked olive oil, salad oil....palm oil, peanut oil, coconut oil...No wonder the pantry is so full!!!!!!!! just oil alone can accommodate a huge chunk of space.

Soon Mr. Clawie into the wok
hehehehehe.....just one crab alone is enuff for the both of us..it's a huge ass crab from Australia. Just compare it with the wok...it's a standard sized wok, not a mini one.

Monkey was getting a bit impatient and started poking Mr. Clawie with the spatula
JS: "Hands off!!!"
Monkey >.<I'm alwiz a menace hovering around when he's cooking. If only there's a fly-swatter to piak me :P

Homemade chicken stock...it's alwiz good to make some and store in the fridge. But since we ran out of stock, JS had to make some...so really if u have chicken stock this meal would be 15 minutes :)))))

and soon Mr. Clawie is turning crimson
why lah??? u shy izzit?

JS let the stock reduce a bit....and I still couldn't believe him that it's gonna be a 15 minutes meal. Okie lor...u can start ur own franchise of 15 minutes chinese meal :P hahahahaha

Add the Bee Hoon and more chicken stock. JS used my leftover bee hoon from my other 15 minutes meal *read about it here*

JS: "Aiks why.......this is the thin noodle!!!"
"Yes it is...your eyes didn't cheat u"
JS: "I needed a thicker version....." sigh............
but it was too late.....hahahahahahaha

so after the noodles are in....let Mr. Clawie braised for a bit in the wok together with Bee Hoon in the chicken stock bath.

Ta-DA!!!!

I timed it...it was really 15 minutes!!!!
the pieces of roe were all over the bee hoon....in lil orange specs. Really good for a 15 minutes meal but I preferred an older version he made a few years ago with crab stock. Yup instead of chicken stock, he made flower crab stocks from scratch. That one was really awesome but time consuming too.

So now I am really looking forward to that version soon :)))))))
Thank you Mr. JS for cooking yet another amazing simple dinner :)))))
and Mr. Clawie for sacrificing yourself to us. You were not wasted Mr. Clawie...every part of u were consumed and appreciated. Rest be assured when fresh ingredients like u are handled at the hands of Mr. JS.....you'll be honored. Amen~~~~

Sumi-Ka Marathon

Perfectly char-grilled pork belly
the fat pieces were bursting in the mouth the moment ur teeth sink in. As good as crispy pork lard. Last few days had been a marathon here. 3 nites in a row at Sumi-Ka.

Reason was they were closed for 2.5 weeks!!!!!!
*horror*
O.O

the boss sent the staffs to Phuket for a long holiday while he went back to Nagasaki Japan. Such a generous boss. Paid leave paid holiday.

We have no idea when are they coming back and kept on calling every single freaking day for reservation. The phone went unanswered for days!!!! apparently they extended their holiday. WAHHHHHH

The day they reopened for business, everyone looked so jovial and fresh. The boys were cleanly shaved, spotting some new funky haircuts. The ladies looked more youthful and Chef looked...the same...hahahahaha.

"How was ur long long long super LONG holiday??? we missed ya!!!"
*actually I missed the food :P*
"It was sooooo good. We didn't wanna come back!!!"
hahahaha I am sure...

fresh oysters wrapped with bacon and shiso leaves.
one of my new favourite....the oyster was still soft and juicy...think the shiso leaves not only offer a great taste but "protection" from the charcoal heat.

so on the 3rd day, we came here for supper with a few friends.

the main objective is to "drink" coz it's supper but one needs food to go with ur drinks right?

the down side of coming here after 9.30pm is...most of the "staples" on its menu are gone!!!! Such as chicken wings, chicken skin, Squid, squid's beak, peripherals parts of a pig, beef from Japan, certain fish...in fact loads of things were gone. hahahahah...but nvm it was just for accompaniment for our wines.

the lady was pretty sweet to save us some of these huge sea prawns from Japan so yums!!!!! and so so fresh, the meat were clinging onto the shells.

can't remember if this was beef tongue or something....
I don't usually have beef here bcoz my stomach can only accommodate all the chicken and pork :P

crunchy okras with japanese sea salt.

all these food needs plenty of preparation from cleaning to cutting them to uniform sizes then put them on the skewers. Look, there's 2 skewers holding these okras tightly.

just dip everything lightly onto the japanese spices

lurve the grilled shallots with brown sauce....
super sweet!!!!

chicken knuckles with a small piece of skin on top :))))))
yes didn't know chicken knuckles can taste so yummmsss!!!

ginkgo with specs of salt...
it's chewy and nutty!!! pure simple love :))))))

enoki mushrooms wrapped with bacon...grilled to yummy goodness and served with special japanese light vinegar. Good balance :))))

chicken thigh with leeks :))))))

since Leeks were so good, we ordered them solo

because the Oyster wrapped with bacon and shiso leaves were so irresistible...had to HAVE MORE!!!! yummsssss. Look at it!!!!

every table was served this generous bottomless refillable cabbage with light vinegar. Just cleanse ur palate after every stick :))))

Vosne Romanee Malconsorts with Yakitori???
the possibilities are endless....just like out new tagline -_-"
Malconsorts is just a very very short distance away from La Tache. It didn't achieve the Grand cru status bcoz apparently the owner rejected it when it was offered then. Wow it's like being offered knighthood and u say no? I like...he has got attitude :))))

soon Chef was asking if we want anything anymore as he is retiring for the evening soon.
Life is such...when u have everything u tend to take it for granted...when u know it's coming to an end..u will be greedy and have SOOOOOO many things...soon we were yelling orders for this and that and this and that and reorders of this and that.

Chef -_-"

Monkey and her usual favourites
Pork belly in sauce....shallots...and pork belly without sauce

The men wanted grilled onigiri and so they have 3
One of them insisted that he's full and no more food...but after one bite of the onigiri, he quietly chomped half of it :P

Resistance is futile!!!!

They could not resist more pork belly...and so another 3 more sticks :P

Soon Chef retired and ate his noodle :P

he then ate his noodle on a stool....chatting with his japanese clients.

and the apprentice took over
nope, he wasn't grilling for the remaining clients...it's FOOD for the STAFFS!!!!
so u see, Chef has got really high standard and quality. Only himself can grill for the clients.

it's almost 11pm and everyone was bz cleaning.
another busy nite and more to come :P

do make reservation in advance, they have 3 seatings
6.00pm - 7.30pm
7.45pm - 9.30pm
9.30pm till late
anyway the above timeline isn't official....I roughly time it out.
but most of the time we have 7pm seating until late :P It's pretty subjective depending on the availability for that evening.

I highly recommend counter seating to watch all the action but usually only possible if u have 4 pax and below.

Lastly, we must have the creme caramel that's so mini....and so burnt
yummmsss!!!!

Thought this will be such a cute pic to put up hehehehehe

Sumi-ka doesn't open for lunch. They are closed every Monday. It ain't easy to locate this place for first timer so my tip would be to locate Ayam Penyet and it's directly opposite it on the first floor. Very very obscure entrance by the side stairways. Cash terms only so remember to bring ur money!!!
